The day has finally arrived, Transformers has hit Hi-Def….wait didnt It already? Well yea but now its on Blu-Ray Disc and Michael Bay can stop his bitching. Transformers was my favorite cartoon growing up, I had the toys, watched the show, saw the animated film in the theaters…twice! In 2007 Paramount & Hasbro enlisted the help of epic action director Michael Bay (Bad Boys, The Rock) to bring the world of the Autobots and the Decpiticons to the big screen. But is this new Blu-Ray version worth the upgrade? read on and find out.

Well maybe much to Michael Bay’s dismay Hasbro, the toy maker of all things Transformers here stateside has let the title of the upcoming sequel to 2007’s mega hit Transformers, and it is Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. For those not familiar with the Transformers mythos the fallen refers to the 13 original Transformers created by Primus, the below item is from the Transformers wiki.
At the dawn of time, Primus created new life, the 13 original Transformers, to crew his planetary form into battle against his eternal nemesis Unicron. One of these 13, his original name now lost to the mists of time, turned against his siblings, his creator, and his universe, and betrayed them all.
…this guardian of entropy became obsessed with the darker side of chaos and death, and in the black place these urges led him, the betrayer found a new god, more suited to his nature. He turned against Primus and became the Fallen. Now he is a being of power, darkness, and absolute dedication to Unicron.

Its safe to say, the cartoons of today are no where near as good as the ones that were on when I was growing up (80’s-90’s era). You had shows like Robotech, Thundercats, Starblazers, Visionaries, X-Men, Spider-Man, and Batman: The Animated Series. But looking back at that time in my life there was one cartoon that stood out amongst the rest, that rose above others and left a lasting impression on me and everyone else I know, that cartoon was Transformers. Ive been dreaming of a live action Transformers movie for years, and when I heard Steven Spielberg was involved I almost cried like a little girl (j/k). But little did I know Spielberg would not be directing that job would go to Michael Bay, who in my mind has only made 3 good films (Bad Boys 1 & 2, & The Rock). And so July 4th of this year was the scheduled date for this film to get released in the theaters and to my suprise the movie was very enjoyable, and with the DVD release upon us (October 16th) we have an advance review for you of the Standard Definition release (with a HD review to follow hopefully), so enjoy!
