Sandisk @ CES

Published: Tuesday, January 9th, 2007 By:Ricta

Sandisk has a lot planned for this year’s CES and here’s some of their initial offerings:

Sandisk Sansa View

The seemingly clunky, Sandisk Sansa View is a portable media player (this is their first venture in this category) with 8GB of flash memory for movie watching goodness on its spacious 4-inch display. Its expandable to an additional 8, 16, or 32GB with its SDHC memory card slot, so this pmp won’t be plagued with low-capacity issues. It also includes a Li-polymer battery, a built-in speaker, PlaysForSure support, A/V-out with a maximum resolution of 1080i, and will have a battery life of 10-hrs for music (a bit skimpy if you ask me) & 4-hrs for video (WMV & MPEG-4[DivX + AVI]). The compatible music formats are still unknown but the View is slated for this Quarter (Q1) and will retail for $300.

More Sandisk products after the break

Sandisk Sansa Connect

The Wi-Fi enabled Sansa Connect is Sandisk’s answer to Microsoft’s ill-received Zune. The 4GB Connect includes the ability to stream internet radio, a microSD slot, and a 2.2-inch screen. It’ll support WMA (both protected and unprotected), PlaysForSure, MS’s upcoming Vista OS, and something called a “community connection” which might work something like the Zune’s music transferring system and should include buying & downloading content over Wi-Fi. The wheel reminds me of the now defunct company Rio, which made superb mp3 players. It’ll retail for $250 and be out by late March.

Sandisk Sansa Express

It’d be lying to you if I said it didn’t remind me of the 1st gen shuffle. The Sansa express is what the original shuffle should’ve been and with great reason; It features a 1.1-inch display, voice-recording, FM tuner/recording, 1GB of memory, built-in USB, and a microSD slot for an extra 2GB of whatever you want(and I use the term whatever, loosely). It’ll Retail for $59 and you can preorder right now over at Amazon if you heart so desires. Expected Release date: sometime in April.
