Justice League Season 2 Review

As a life long comic book fan I’ve always loved the animated adventures of my favorite characters: X-Men, Spider-Man, the incredible Batman Animated Series as well as its equally impressive spin off’s (Batman Beyond, and the Superman Animated Series). So when I heard the same creative team that brought by far the best version of The Dark Knight ever to the tv screen was going to do a Justice League cartoon I was sold.

Supes/Brainiac

The Series
Dangers across the galaxy threaten Earth - and the only obstacle to the annihilation of the human race is the Justice League: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Hawkgirl! But having super powers doesn’t make these heroes immune to human nature. Deep-rooted feelings of mistrust and insecurity surface and plague the League, causing internal strife and leaving them vulnerable to attacks from their enemies. But when one of their own commits the ultimate betrayal, it could be the end of the Justice League and Earth forever. Don’t miss one second of suspense or one iota of excitement with this 4-disc, 26-episode collection.

Supes!

Where season 1 was just good, season 2 completely blows it out of the water. This was the last season of the standard Justice League series (it became Justice League: Unlimited in season 3), most of the 26 episodes are 2 or 3 parters (with the exception of “Comfort and Joy” which was a stand alone Christmas episode).

Batman

Transfer
Presented in a 1.78:1 non-anamorphic (non 16×9) widescreen transfer Justice League is one of the best looking animated shows out there. Rich with color there isnt a single seen that dissapoints but they couldve at least remastered it for 16×9.
Rating: 8 out of 10

Green Lantern Corps.

Audio
Dolby 2.0 stereo is all we get, but dont worry it still sounds great, cause it is how it was meant to be heard so all noise is well centered, dialouge is crisp and clear and the sound effects are top notch.
Rating: 8 out of 10

Joker

Extras
On this 4 Disc set we get audio commentaries by the series creators on the following episodes: Twilight Part 2, A Better World Part 2, and Starcrossed Part 3. And a behind the scenes look at the creation of the show hosted by Phil Lamar (voice of the Green Lantern). The Commentaries are enjoyable and informative to listen to you can tell everyone involved loves what their doing, and the featurette is rather enjoyable as well, sadly thats all there is though.

Overall
DC and Warner Bros. Animation again prove why their product is far superior to what Marvels been putting out for years, so do yourself a favor and pick up Justice League Season 2.

How ironic.. over the past few weeks i’ve been watching this whole series.. I’m up to season three now. I gotta say, I think the first two seasons were way better so far. I liked the standard two-part story arcs more than the single-shot episodes of the latter seasons.
