“What would I do if I were a rich and famous movie star?” Thats a question I often ask myself from time to time. And in 2004 HBO answered my question with their comedy series Entourage. Based loosely on the early days in Executive Producer Mark Walhberg’s career, Entourage is drop dead hillarious. And with the series third season set to start this Sunday (June 11th) we have the review of the Second Season.

The Series
The HBO hit series, Entourage, starring Adrien Grenier, Kevin Connally, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara, and Jeremy Piven, is back for its Second Season on DVD. The series follows the lives of hot celebrity actor Vince Chase and his posse of friends from the old neighborhood as they maneuver and strut through the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Beautiful models, bright clubs, and celebrity cameos fill every episode. The boys are styling and living large, the women are drop dead beautiful and available, and the night life and premieres fill their days and nights. The 14-episode Second Season is a season of drama and instability for Vince and his crew. After coming back from the making of Queens Boulevard, Vince finds out that offers are drying up as fast as his bank account, and his dream of playing Pablo Escobar in Medellin is about as realistic as Drama’s need for new calves. Aquaman, a big budget James Cameron movie, is the big money payday that Ari needs for Vince to take, but his reluctance is making life difficult. Eric is torn between his friendship with Vince and his desire to be a real manager making sound decisions for his client, while Turtle learns that Eric’s old job isn’t as glam as it seemed. If theres a series that comes anywhere near to perfection its Entourage: with strong characters, great writing, terriffic acting (espically by Gloden Globe Nominee Jeremy Piven) Entourage is a show that everyone should be watching, and if your not then do yourself a favor and watch it!

Transfer
Presented in its original 1.33:1 full screen aspect ratio, Entourage is a good looking show, not near the standard set by The Sopranos, Deadwood, and Carnivale sets but good none the less. Colors are well balanced with no bleed through, there was a little bit of edge enhancement but not a lot to get up in arms about.
Rating: 8 out of 10

Audio
Again not very impressive, Entourage sports a 2.0 Stereo soudmix that leaves you wanting A LOT more, though dont get me wrong its still pretty nice but far from perfect. So those with a nice surround set up dont expect to be blown away.

Extras
HBO has a pretty strong reputation of adding a lot of supplimental features to their season sets, thus is not the case with Entourage the only special feature is something called “The Mark Wahlberg Sessions” in which Wahlberg interviews the main cast and some of their real life counterparts and some of the crew. Running about 20+ minutes long this is a very interesting piece of bonus material, sadly though that is it.

Overall
A great series gets a rather mediocre set, but if extras arent your only purchasing factor then by all means pick up Entourage Season 2.
