Transcend has introduced this USB flash drive/audio player that I wouldn’t mind lugging around with me. It plays MP3 and standard WMA, includes a touch pad controller and will come in two versions, a 512MB red one for $80 and a 1GB gray one for $120; the same price points for the Shuffle, so obviously they’re trying to compete with it. I would argue that this wins in the design department but others would argue for the Shuffle’s simplicity regarding its design. Its a bit bigger than Shuffle and it will come with a replaceable 18 hour lithium-ion battery that, get this, is only replaceable by their service. On the USB drive side, it will be able to partition and password protect your data or information, be able to function as a bootable device and “perform as a key to lock up your PC.” It includes a that notable feature that when you take out the earphones, it turns the device off which many think (including me) should be standard in all of today’s audio players.
