Due to an ongoing dispute over the use of the name Gmail in the UK, Google has resorted to changing the name of the mail service to ‘Google Mail.’ It seems Google had a similar dispute in Germany which prevented the use of the Gmail name there as well. They will no longer be issuing accounts with the @gmail.com extension, but will instead hand out the bland replacement @googlemail.com. Users with existing gmail.com addresses will not be affected presently, but that could change in the future depending on the outcome of the legal proceedings. Luckily for us in the states, this dispute does not affect us.
