It’s the SIMPSONS!
We are finally at Season 6 some thought it would never come but.. it’s here! The biggest change on the DVD side of things are this new packaging scheme that Fox has come up with. The new packaging is basically a plastic Homer head that encases a custom digipak like casing.
Season 6 is the Simpsons in all it’s glory, not only is it Mr. Groening favorite season but it’s also contains the infamous WHO SHOT MR. BURNS episode.

Movie
This is The Simpsons at it’s purest, most hardcore old school fans consider this era as the show at it’s best… and with just cause. This was back when The Simpsons had one cohesive story for each episode and not the multi-threaded stories that we have in the more recent seasons.
This season sports 25 excellent episode. I could site here and go over how much i enjoy all 25 or you can just take my word for it. If this boxset had a bad audio and video transfer (which it doesn’t) it would still be worth picking up, that’s how good the episodes are.

Transfer
The transfer is on par with previous releases, which isn’t a bad thing. There are a few problem spots, but overall its a pretty good transfer.
As home theater technology gets better with HDTVs, Progressive Scan and Upscaling DVD players most of thise TV boxsets show their age. Would be great if the show were broadcasted in HD but you take what you can get.
With that said the transfer is still pretty nice. The colors are better then what you remember and everything is crispy clean.

Audio
The sound mix is great, very clean and very crisp. The DVD is given a nice new 5.1 Dolby Surround mix which only adds to what we already have. Normally upgrading a sound source from 2.0 to 5.1 the results are disappointing, not the case here Fox did an excellent job in upgrading the sound track.

Extras
Unlike most other TV shows we get commentary for EVERY episode which is a treat because pretty much all of them are interesting. Along with tons of commentary we get some great extras like the spoof of America… err.. Springfield’s Most Wanted with none other then John Walsh, We get some cool commercials some of which I’ve never seen (Church’s Chicken commercials???), deleted scenes, a quick look at the Western Pacific Simpsons plane w/commentary and more!
To say its packed with extras would be an understatement.

Overall
Overall… it’s the freaking Simpsons, that alone should be worth it for most of you. For those of you that need convincing not only does season 6 have some awesome episode, but the DVD is packed to the gills with extras, it has a great audio transfer and a very nice video transfer.
Some of you may have an issue with the re-designed packaging and with just cause. The new design is a pretty big departure from what we saw on seasons 1-5. The “Homer Head” is made out of a fairly thin, fairly cheap plastic, but what lies inside is actually very nice. Sporting a Digipak like casing holding all 4 discs in a book like fashion.
The Simpsons Season 6 is a must buy for any Simpsons, animation or comedy fan.
