Google to map San Francisco

Google recently implemented their own map and directions service at maps.google.com, and in a bid to improve and revolutionize the service, the company will be creating the first of a series of three dimensional city maps. They will be driving trucks loaded with laser guided survey equipment up and down each and every city street of San Francisco to make a full and accurate 3D model of the city. The goal of the project is to make 3D maps of major US and international cities available online as an alternative to the current top-down maps currently available on standard map services.
